The first Monday of May is upon us and the fashion-verse is in a tizzy with the biggest event in fashion, the MET Gala. With fashion reaching its fever pitch this coming week, and social media opening its flood gates to an onslaught of fashion media coverage, we sit on the sidelines eagerly awaiting the awe inspiring looks that will be gracing the carpet. Stylists, fashion media and celebrities working overtime to create some of the most iconic looks, the MET Gala sets the tone for red carpet fashion year by year. 


As “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening of Fashion” is set for its release, the dress code “The Garden of Time” surely makes us wonder how fashion’s biggest names will embody this code. With our eyes set on what is to come, we take a quick look at some of the most memorable fashion moments gracing the red carpet by South Asian talent over the years. And while we do this we can't help but think in excitement what this Monday has in store for us.

1. Alia Bhatt

Making her debut at the MET gala steps in 2023, ace actress Alia Bhatt wore a custom Prabal Gurung to pay homage to the late designer Karl Lagerfeld. The princess gown drenched in pearls is a modern brides dream.

2. Deepika Padukone


Not one to always push the envelope and maintain a consistent style game, actress Deepika Padukone, stepped onto the MET Gala carpet in 2019 wearing a custom bubblegum pink gown by Zac Posen. The dress featured 400 pieces of three-dimensional embroidery and was made of lurex jacquard.

3. Priyanka Chopra Jonas 

 

In her statement glamorous style, Priyanka Chopra Jonas graced the MET Gala steps wearing a Valentino dress in all its glory. A thigh-high slit and an extra long tufted cape dialed up the glamor a notch, finishing her look with white opera gloves and statement diamonds.

4. Lilly Singh

Channeling her inner floral princess, Lilly Singh attended the 2019 MET Gala in an ombre gown featuring floral accents and a bodice resembling floral petals. She added to the florals with intricately woven orchids and violets to her waist long braid.

6. Mindy Kaling 

For the 2023 MET Gala, Mindy Kaling worked with Jonathan Simkhai for a custom beaded gown featuring over 7,000 mixed mother-of-pearl, silver crystal, sequin and bugle beads. The gown was a perfect homage to Chanel that was helmed under Lagerfeld’s meticulous watch.

7. Natasha Poonawala 


India’s most celebrated fashion star and philanthropist, Natasha Poonawal turned heads and had the internet in frenzy when she stepped out in an outfit pairing two of the biggest names in fashion, Schiaparelli and Sabyasachi.
